Richard Lombard - WorldviewU Executive Director - offers training workshops in cultural intelligence.  Cultural intelligence (also known as cultural competence or cultural agility) is the ability to effectively communicate and interact with people of other cultures.

Workshops address the importance of cultural intelligence (referred to as CQ for cultural quotient), the four CQ capabilities of Drive, Knowledge, Strategy, and Action, explain the 10 cultural value dimensions, and offer strategies for increasing cultural intelligence individually and as an organization.

Training options include one-hour presentations and half-day and full-day workshops for businesses, hospitals, government agencies, call centers, charitable organizations, teachers, social workers, etc.

Richard also gives keynote speeches at conferences, talks at association chapter meetings, and lectures for universities and schools.

Why Cultural Intelligence training?

The United States is a melting pot of people from other countries.  Additional ingredients, in the form of new immigrants, continue to be added to our mix in the 21st Century.  According to the U.S. Census Bureau, nearly 41 million residents are foreign-born. 1   And, by 2044 more than half of the people living in the United States are expected to be part of a minority group. 2

Understanding and properly relating with people from other countries, cultures and belief systems can be a challenge.  Cashiers, customer service representatives, skilled tradespeople, doctors, nurses, and computer programmers interact with a variety of people each day.  Learning about the communication styles and cultural practices and beliefs of people from other countries is an essential skill for effectively interacting and communicating with others.

Richard’s Experience

Richard is a certified cultural intelligence (CQ) instructor through the Cultural Intelligence Center. At Nationwide Insurance and JPMorgan Chase, Richard started and led the Cultural Conversation Group. The group at Nationwide brought together employees from various countries to get to know each other and learn about each other's culture.  At Chase Richard facilitated monthly sessions on topics related to culture, to help raise the level of CQ and create a more inclusive environment. Sessions covered such topics as dietary preferences, holidays and special occasions, specific cultures and religions, sports, arts, and cross-cultural communication. Attendance averaged 100 participants and included employees from across the globe.

Richard has given cultural intelligence presentations for National Management Training Week, the Central Ohio ISACA (Information Systems Audit and Control Association) chapter, the Central Ohio InfoSec Summit, COISSA (Central Ohio Information Systems Security Association), One Dublin, National Church Residences, Expesite, and other organizations. He served on a panel - sponsored by the Columbus Chamber of Commerce - on the topic of cultural intelligence.

Richard has traveled to Europe, Honduras, India, and Israel and has an ongoing desire to learn and teach about other countries, cultures, and worldviews.
